Lost Lake Overnight Hike via Greenwater Lakes
12 miles roundtrip
This is a great destination for the beginning backpacker that wants to try their hand overnight. With only six miles to cover each day, we take our time as the trail meanders along the Greenwater River as it flows down from Greenwater Lakes.
The Greenwater Lakes are two lakes of emerald green color that are the first to greet us as we make our way up the trail. While there is fishing, the waters are cold and Lost Lake promises a bigger catch.
A hidden gem en route to Lost Lake is the small and stunningly beautiful Quinn Lake. This aquamarine lake peaks through the trees off the left side of the trail, but the extra time to visit is worth it! The water is so clear you can see every rock and tree on the bottom and the family of otters are often found on one of the logs, completely unconcerned by the human presence.
Continue making our way a further 4 miles, we emerge at Lost Lake, nestled in a gentle bowl with grassy meadows reaching down to the shore. We'll drop our packs and put a hook on our lines and spend the afternoon relaxing and fishing for the rainbow trout that can be seen jumping in the waters.
Fancy a swim? Then don't forget the towel as this shallow lake heats up nicely under the summer sun!
We'll set up camp, have dinner (and perhaps some fresh trout), and fall asleep under the milky way. Return trip back down the trail the next day after a hearty breakfast.
